A Song for Refugees

1. On the TV, in the newspaper I saw,
Asylum seekers trying to find a way ashore
On overcrowded boats they face the dangerous seas,
Looking for a peaceful life
Just like you and me
Chorus And I know those people coming to our shores
Would not be coming if the choice was theirs
Leaving friends and home and family
Everything they know
They don’t have the choices, that we do.
2. How would you be, coming off that boat?
Rounded up and forced behind the razor wire
Foreign land, foreign language too
No respect for the person that is you.

3. In the end we’re one big family
Floating round in a vast black galaxy
Given refuge, by our Mother Earth
We are brothers and sisters in an endless universe
